1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of open small group systems as opposed to closed small group systems?

Advantages of open small group systems: Allow for input, throughput, and output variables. Input variables are the energy, information, and raw material used by an open system, which is transformed into output by throughput processes. Throughput variables are the actual functioning of a system, or how the system transforms inputs into outputs. And Output variables are anything that is produced by a system, such as a tangible product or change in the system; in a small group, includes such things as reports, resolutions, changes in cohesiveness, and attitude changes in members.
Disadvantages of open small group systems: Tendency to stray from topic, loose focus, and not allow for the entire group to participate.

Advantages of closed small group systems: Intimacy with group members and easier ability for discussion and delegation.

Disadvantages of closed small group systems: No outside input.

2.What do you think are ideal input, throughput, and output characteristics for a small group?

Ideal Input: When the entire group gives positive feedback, thinks about others before themselves, and seeks to do everything best for the group.

Ideal Throughput: When there is an even amount of both positive and negative input to balance the group.

Ideal Output: When the group changes for the better and their is cohesiveness within the group
